Kennett School District honored as 'Overachiever'

05/15/2013 01:38AM, Published by Brian O, Categories: In Print, Schools

For the second year in a row, Kennett Consolidated School District is an “Overachiever,” according to Pittsburgh Business Times.  When students’ test scores and economics were compared, the district  ranks 48th of 500 Pennsylvania school districts.

Ethan Lott, Pittsburgh Business Times research director, said two rankings were conducted.  The first compared state standardized test scores of all school districts.  “In a second ranking, we add in the percentage of students receiving free or reduced lunches,” he said.  The Pittsburgh Business Times’ website states that educators widely acknowledge a student’s economic situation affects his academic performance, and for this reason created the Overachiever category to recognize districts that exceed educational norms.

Dr. Barry Tomasetti, superintendent for Kennett Consolidated School District, said, “The credit for this recognition goes first to our students and their families for their support of our educational process, and then to our teachers and administrators for the work they do with our children each and every day.  I offer my most sincere congratulations and appreciation to all. These honors are a testament to the high-quality education that we provide and the hard-working and focused students we serve.”

The Kennett Consolidated School District serves more than 4,100 students.  For more information, visit www.kcsd.org.
